In an emotional video shared on social media, the man said he had been battling depression for months and had been crying for weeks since his relationship ended.
He explained that he was previously known on TikTok as the Nigerian man who got married to a white man, but revealed that they were no longer together.
According to him, his American visa was denied this year, and shortly afterwards, his partner allegedly ended their relationship without giving him an explanation.
The man said he had sacrificed a lot for the relationship, including coming out to his family and putting his safety at risk, because he believed their ultimate plan was for him to relocate to the United States.
He claimed that their relationship was initially kept private for about six months before pressure from his partner and his family led him to start posting about the relationship on social media.
He said he was initially reluctant to make the relationship public because of the risks of being openly gay in Nigeria, but eventually agreed because he believed it would help their plans for him to travel to the US.
The man also recounted their trips to Seychelles, saying he eventually returned to Lagos after spending as much time as possible there because he could not obtain a longer-term visa.
He further alleged that his former partner was highly controlling during their relationship, claiming that he was expected to answer his calls almost immediately and regularly had to prove that he was alone in his apartment during video calls.
According to him, their five-hour time difference also meant he frequently stayed awake from around 1am until 4am to speak with his partner after the latter returned from work.
The man said the situation had left him isolated and struggling financially, adding that he had not eaten for days and could no longer afford his medication.
“I've been depressed for months and it has gotten up to like here and it's really affecting me. I really can't take it anymore,” he said.
He appealed to anyone who could help him secure legal assistance in the United States, saying he wanted a lawyer who could contact his former partner and help him with the situation.
“I just need legal help. Anybody that can help me with a lawyer in the US. So they can write a petition or something. I'm broke as fuck. I don't have one naira like this. I haven't eaten for days,” he said.
He also disclosed that he had attempted to start a business but it failed, adding that the entire situation had left him feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope.
